  • In this GIF Valentino is experimenting with the idea that ‘Mother Earth’ has the world under surveillance. The rate of depletion/degradation of ‘her’ natural provisions for humanity not only is alarming, but it is also a saddening global condition that the fragmented portrait (slice thereof) touches on. The thermohaline oceanic water current is represented, in the abstract on the upper right globe and this altered conveyor of heat; currents shifting in response to warmer temperatures and precipitation are indicative of “generation loss” (the degradation of the Earth’s quality of life from one generation to another). The flashing polaroid of the utility faucet reverberates the use of water; against the drought-inflicted lake ground (New Melones Lake, California) which shows a large spherical buoy that no longer floats.

  • an animated iteration of a photographic work titled, Body as Environment, 2023.

  • a time-based art project focused on climate change/environment and looks at water specifically and details around atmospheric rivers (ARs).

  • a time-based iteration to its photo-based counterpart from Valentino’s series titled, Remediated Thoughts, 2023.

  • A concept video that, on the surface, contrasts extreme temperatures by way of fire and exposure to subzero conditions then, conceptually, Valentino connects them to the ideation of real-life experiences that are based on the idea of ‘our’ burning desires, and cold, isolating experiences which can both become injurious if we are not careful to look before we enter spaces where conditions are too extreme.

Like the video, life is always in motion– energy on display– and because energy can neither be created or destroyed; it is vitally important to find a balance between extreme opposites.

Life’s decisions are consequential in mundaneness as well as dramatic, so in this video work, Valentino aims to project a cautionary signal to his viewers.

Passion and Trauma was recently exhibited (October 2022) at the Mexican Heritage Plaza in San Jose, CA for the 2nd Annual After Life Exhibit in collaboration with Works/San Jose: community art and performance center. Curated by Joe Miller.

  • Gun Shots for a New Day is about people around the world who bear witness to the same sunrise– yet, experience different realities and contemplations of what a new day means. It does not fixate on a specific event/region and does consider the people/communities affected by weapons of warfare from military combat zones, cartel intense regions, city streets, and shopping centers/churches/mosques/clubs.
